The Fitzrovia Art Nouveau tile forms part of De Ferranti’s Art Nouveau Collection of handpainted ceramic panels.

In the spirit of reviving historical decorative movements, our Art Nouveau Collection comprises 8 handpainted 44 cm square ceramic panels of sixteen 11 cm square tiles in vivid shades of orange, yellow and green.

Fitzrovia Art Nouveau Tile Design

Fitzrovia is distinguished by flowing ochre-orange linework painted across a clear white ground. On the individual tile, long uneven curves extend from a concentrated corner motif, opening into nested contours, branching lines and a small spiral. The slight variation within each brushstroke retains the character of the painted hand rather than the uniformity of a mechanically printed pattern.

When the sixteen tiles are assembled, these separate lines connect across the joints to create repeated vertical axes, mirrored intersections and radiating curves. The generous areas of white negative space keep the larger composition open and balanced, allowing the line itself to provide the colour, movement and decorative structure.

The design draws on the whiplash curve associated with Art Nouveau graphic work and the applied arts. Rather than depicting a literal flower or leaf, Fitzrovia uses contour, symmetry and rhythmic repetition to suggest natural growth. Its pared-back palette gives the historical reference a graphic, contemporary character that can sit alongside plaster, timber, terracotta, stone and warm metal finishes.

Hand-Painted Ceramic Panel for Interior Walls

The Fitzrovia Art Nouveau tile is intended for decorative internal wall applications, including bathrooms, residential interiors, restaurants and commercial projects. The complete 44 cm composition can be used as a focused decorative panel, repeated across a larger feature wall or coordinated with a quieter field of plain ceramic tiles.

As the pattern is formed across sixteen individual pieces, the complete sequence should be laid out before fixing. This allows the orientation and continuity of the lines to be checked while confirming the relationship between the panel, its joints and any adjoining surface materials. Grout colour, joint width, perimeter treatment and final positioning should be reviewed through samples or a project mock-up.
