Orange grey ceramic tiles bring warmth, structure and a more tempered colour balance to the Pollen repeat. Pollen – Orange/Grey began as a design from a velvet devore scarf by Neisha Crosland, later translated into the Haveli collection as a handpainted ceramic surface. Its jagged triangular forms, angular marks, spokes and clustered dots create a lively repeat, while the grey ground steadies the orange detailing and gives the design a composed, project-ready character.
A design that started life on a velvet devore scarf that Neisha designed.
The arrangement of jagged edges triangles, angular motifs and spokes and dots have always interested Neisha and it is a theme she still plays with. The cluster of dots reminded her of a cluster of pollen, thus the name of this design.”I always think that putting shapes into repeat is a bit like arranging notes in music only it produces a visual rhythm and tune rather than audible one. I hope this collection demonstrates this, she says of the concept behind her work.
Across a wall, splashback, restaurant interior, bathroom or carefully specified floor, these orange grey ceramic tiles create a surface with rhythm rather than noise. The repeat has energy, but the grey tone helps it sit calmly within schemes that use stone, plaster, timber, metal or other natural materials.
As part of Neisha Crosland – HAVELI, Pollen – Orange/Grey belongs to a family of handpainted glazed terracotta tiles with distressed matte surfaces, earthy colourways and small geometric designs. The handpainted finish is important because it keeps the pattern from feeling flat or digitally printed. Slight shifts in line, tone and glaze give the surface a crafted quality, while the orange and grey palette makes it more restrained than brighter Pollen colourways.

This product also appears in the Neisha Crosland Haveli Collection Exterior Garden Wall and Tile-Clad Seating project, where multiple Haveli patterns are used together in a decorative garden wall and integrated tiled seating scheme. Orange grey ceramic tiles of this kind are useful where a project needs repeat pattern, colour and hand finishing to work as part of a complete material palette.
