The Blues – Mistwashed Sky MC44 – Handmade Glazed Ceramic Tile

Mistwashed Sky ceramic tile is a soft, weathered blue-grey glaze with the quiet atmosphere of early morning light, faded painted shutters and old ceramic surfaces gently softened by time. Created as part of the De Ferranti x AAA – Alvaro Afonso Atelier Glazed Tile Collection, Mistwashed Sky ceramic tile brings a calm, architectural softness to handmade ceramic surfaces.

Its glaze sits between blue, grey and washed indigo, giving it a subtle tonal complexity that feels both coastal and historic. The handmade body gives each tile a slightly irregular surface, allowing the glaze to pool, thin and deepen across the face of the tile. This creates movement without becoming visually loud, making Mistwashed Sky ceramic tile especially suitable for bathrooms, kitchens, garden rooms, entrance halls, shower walls, decorative panels and heritage-led interiors.

Used alone, it creates a serene and understated field of colour. Used within The Blues Mix, it acts as the lighter atmospheric note, softening the deeper indigo and navy tones while adding air, balance and quiet variation.

Specifying the Mistwashed Sky ceramic tile

At 11 x 11 cm, the square format can form a measured field while retaining the edge and glaze variation that gives the surface its handmade character. Samples should be reviewed under the intended lighting, as blue-grey glazes may read differently beside timber, stone, painted joinery and metalwork. Grout tone and joint width also influence whether the installation appears softly continuous or more clearly articulated.

For larger areas, tiles should be blended from the supplied batch so natural variation is distributed evenly. A representative layout can establish the preferred balance before fixing and help coordinate corners, cut pieces and changes of plane. Where the tile is proposed for wet areas, suitability and the complete substrate, waterproofing, adhesive and grout system should be confirmed for the specific project before quantities are finalised.

Additional tones within the Blues family include Azure Tide, Imperial Navy, Midnight Delft and Skywash Blue.

The Mistwashed Sky ceramic tile can also be combined with the above tones on a single surface, bringing texture and tonal variation, as shown in the curated Blues Mix.
