This square black terracotta tile is inspired by the tierra negra earthenware of Colombia. Its leathery chocolate-brown, unglazed ceramic body is made by mixing red clay and manganese oxide.

The tiles are made by hand and are equally at home in modern or traditional interior settings. They can be left in their natural state or sealed and waxed, as shown in the gallery.

Quadrado provides the quieter field format within a collection otherwise known for strongly decorated relief. The straight grid is softened by handmade edges, light surface scoring and variations from cocoa brown to near-black. Dark joints emphasise each square, while a closer tonal grout can make the plane read more continuously.

The first gallery view demonstrates a regular stacked layout. The second shows how the square black terracotta tile responds to angled light, revealing faint tool marks, rubbed edges and the leathery surface associated with the sealed or waxed finish. A sample should be used to compare the natural and finished appearance before specification.
